WII vs. Vietnam War

WWII vs. The Vietnam War

Albert Steinbrunner and Lavern Steinbrunner are both Veterans of foreign wars. Albert severed in WWII and Lavern served in The Vietnam War. Both saw and experienced many things while serving in the United States Army.

Albert Steinbrunner served three and a half years in the Army. His main duties involved unloading ships and maintenance. Albert traveled many places while in the army. In the states he traveled to Ohio, Indiana, Texas, Wisconsin, South and North Carolina. Overseas he was sent to New Caledonia, New Guinea and to his final stop in Japan. He was lucky unlike many soldiers and saw little action in his time in the Army. If the bombs would not have been dropped on Japan, Albert would have been one of the first troops to invade Japan.

Albert’s experience in the army was great. He believes that he learned many things and gained many experiences that he could have not experienced anywhere else.

Lavern served in the army for one year. He traveled many places in the states such as Ohio, Georgia, Alabama, California, and Hawaii. Lavern’s two stop overseas were to Guam and to his final destination in Vietnam. Unlike Albert, Lavern saw more action than he wanted to. He served in the 199th light infantry brigade as an RTO for the majority of his time in the Army. Most of his time was spent in the Jungle looking for the enemy. The basic motto was, “kill the enemy before they kill you”.

Lavern was lucky even though he was involved in many confrontations with the enemy. One reason he was lucky is because he survived. The second reason is he was sent home early. He lucked out and was involved in the troop with drawls that occurred in the winter of 1970. Lavern arrived home on January 1, 1971.

If Lavern had a chance to do it all over again he would not. Lavern doesn’t feel that he gained anything out of the army except for memories that he wishes he did not have.
Albert and Lavern both served in the army but share different experiences and viewpoints of their time spent in the army.

60 second commercial

See that pretty girl in the mirror there?

What mirror where?

Who could that attractive girl be?

(Song from anger management)

Seriously, what mirror where?

The mirror, right in front of you dear.

Hold on, let me get my glasses.

(pause)

O... that mirror.

Wait, you couldn't see that mirror with out your glasses on.

No.

Remember when we talked about you getting lasic surgery with Dr. Bonn? I think you should.

You think I really need it?

Yes. Dear the mirror was only five feet from you.

Ya, I guess your right.

Do you think Dr. Bonn would do the best job?

Dr. Bonn has been preforming lasic surgeries before any other doctors even thought about it and he's a very well accredited doctor.

I know Dr. Bonn will do a great job performing your surgery.

Well, if your that confident in Dr. Bonn then I'll take your word for it.

I'll set an appointment up with Dr. Bonn next week to get my eyes checked and see when I can have the lasic surgery done.

Thats great dear.

Then maybe next you'll be able to see the mirror.

Why do I want a Scion TC?

I've looked at many different cars lately but my eye caught a glimpse of the Scion TC and seemed to stay focused in that direction. I've looked at Tiburons, Accords, Civics, Lancers, Eclipses, 350Zs, Altimas, and Mazdas, but none compare to the flexibility, features, performance and price of a Scion TC.

I love the fact that Scion will allow me to customize my Scion TC without voiding my warranty. This means adding superchargers, intakes, exhaust, suspensions etc. all through the factory. This will save my time, energy and money in the long run. I also am fascinated with the overall style. The elliptical body creates a smooth aerodynamic shape and with the addition of a pedestal spoiler it will create the ultimate design.

I test drove a Scion TC this past July and was very impressed with its overall performance. After test driving the Scion TC it increased my desire to get one.

The final reason that I want a Scion TC is because I've never had a sports car before and would like something different then what I've had before.

What must I do to get a Scion TC?

I've been looking at cars lately considering I'll be graduating soon and hoping to get a better job. The car that I've been fixating on is the Scion TC.

I know the first step will be to graduate college so I will have less bills and a better job. Better job relating to financially stable just in case I decide to go back to school after I buy the car or some other unexpected event decides to happen. Next I need a place of purchase. Who will give me the best deal? What location is the closet in case I have problems that need to be fixed by the dealership? And who will treat me right and not stab me in the back? Then there is the motivation. To look around, test drive cars, and wheel and deal with salesmen. I don't think it will be hard to get the motivation to do these items. Last but not least is the purchase step. The actual physical transition of my hard earned money for a beautiful transportation vehicle.

I think the main topic that will hold me back the most from the purchase of a Scion TC would be having the money. Just coming out college and not wanting to blow all my savings will be one of the elements that holds me back from the purchase, but if everything goes according to plan I will be able to over come this topic.

Scion TC Reviews.

Scion being a product of Toyota has a strong brand backing its growth and with a strong brand name comes high expectations.

I've read many overall customer reviews of the Scion TC and have only found positive results. The main complaints customers have are ones that can be easily fixed by ordering an accessory or could have been avoided by spending a little extra money customizing their car when they ordered it.

Car and Driver is a very well established magazine and usually can give an accurate report on cars that are hot or not. Car and Driver gave the Scion TC a descent review but they were really only focusing on the sportiness of the car but what customers need to remember is that Scion will customize your ride for you from superchargers to suspensions. TRD your Scion TC out. Overall Car and Driver recommends the Scion TC to their subscribers. Car and Driver still has not accumulated any reviews on the 2008 Scion TC, which comes with more standard features and added style. I would like to see what they have to say about the 2008 Scion TC.

I've gave you customer reviews and industrial reviews, now it's time to hear my review. Just this past July of 07 I gave the 2008 Scion TC a test drive myself and it put through its paces (so did the salesmen). I was impressed. I've never had a car with a four cylinder, only sixes (3.1 & 3.8), but was impressed with it acceleration. I still want to put on a cold air intake just for a little more boost. I thought its handling was impression, but I have to consider I'm used to driving a Oldsmobile Intrigue. To give a example of the handling of the TC, the salesmen drove the TC in the tightest circular pattern possible and increased speed until you thought you were going see your lunch, again, but I didn't feel like the TC was going to roll over. I thought the braking to be impressive also. With four large disc brakes the Scion TC could have stopped on a dime. As you can already tell my overall review was a ten out of ten. I liked the performance and style and knowing I have the availability to customize it and make it even better is ok with me.

You can read customer reviews and industrial reviews but the real review that counts is your own. It what you like not someone else. Someone could hate the performance of the Scion TC, but maybe they were used to driving a Nissan 350Z. Overall it's your opinion that matters. Make yourself happy not everyone else.

Technical spec of a Scion TC. How much power do you need?

Who makes Scion? Scion is a lower version of Toyota just like you have the top of the line Acura and the lower Honda version. Same cars just a few more bells and whistles.

The Scion TC comes with a 2.4-liter dual overhead cam (DOHC) 16-valve EFI with Variable Valve Timing with Intelligence (VVT-i) technology, plus a compression ratio of 9.6:1 to produce 161 hp @ 5,700 rpm and 163 lb.-ft. @ 4,000 rpm. If this isn't enough power Scion offers customizability to their customers providing TRD racing performance parts and accessories. Cold air-intakes, superchargers, engine covers, strut bars, rims, tires and many other TRD performance parts are available. Instead of buying after-market parts and voiding your warranty, have Scion install the TRD performance parts for you. Less hassle and you'll keep your 36 months/36,000 mile basic warranty, 60 month/60,000 mile power-train warranty, and 60 months unlimited miles rust-through warranty.

The Scion TC does not just offer considerable power for its' class of car but also boasts low emissions, low noise levels, and an impressive fuel economy. Manual five speed transmissions are rated at 23 city/30 highway miles, and four speed automatics at 23 city/31 highway.

The Scion TC comes with 47 comfort & convenience, exterior, audio, safety, and performance standard features.

With the long list of available standard features and power house performance in its class, the TC comes at an affordable price, depending on how many accessories you need. The base price for a manual is $17,620 and a automatic is $18,420. If you want to see what your Scion TC will cost go to the Scion website and build your own.

Woolworth's Lunch-Counter Waitress Story, In my words.

In 1960 there was a protest at the Woolworth’s Lunch-Counter in Greensboro, NC by four young black men who asked to be served. The protest escaladed from four to thousands and went on for six months of negotiations and sit-ins.

Black citizens were allowed to work at the Woolworth Lunch-Counter but were not allowed to sit and be served at the counter. Ganeva Tisdale was one of the black employees working that day the four young men chose to sit at the counter. It was not listed that black citizens could not sit at the counter but was rather known. The four men turned into 28 on the second day, on the third, 60 and on the sixth day there was 1000 demonstrators. The lunch-counter was closed down and reopened two weeks later. The students and Woolworth negotiated for five months until Woolworth announced in July that there would be a change in policy that would allow black citizens to be served at the counter. Geneva Tisdale and two of her co-workers were chosen to be the first to be served at the counter on July 25, 1960. Geneva and her two co-workers were told to come to work that day and bring an extra pair of cloths. At noon the manager told them to change cloths and walk around the store as if they were customers and then proceed to the counter to be served. The employees ate quickly and then went back to work at the counter, knowing reporters would be there soon to capture the story. No one knew it was the employees of the Woolworth Lunch-Counter that were the first African Americans to be served. On October 23, 1993 Woolworth Lunch-Counter was shut down leaving Geneva's dream of retiring and coming back to eat at the counter with her grandchildren always a dream.

Geneva worked at the counter for 42 consecutive years and was shocked when she was told it was closing. Geneva was moved out to work the floor of the store until it was closed in early January of 1994.

Woolworth's Lunch-Counter Waitress

To hear the story from the waitress' own words gave the story more impact. Geneva was there when it happened and saw everything that occurred, it was a first person experience. Her words are what really happened that day at Woolworth's Lunch-Counter in 1960. The story being passed on through her and told in someone else's words could have left out important details or topics.

Since Geneva was a black woman it added emphasis to the story being told by her. A woman of the same race as the young men that were refused service at the counter portrayed the story. The movement at Woolworth's was a uprising by the black community and hearing the story from one of the first black women served at the counter gives the side of the story no one else could tell except for the two other co-workers with her.

The transcript that describes what occurred at Woolworth's counter in 1960 skips details that give emphasis to the story. The transcript lacks the importance of segregation at this time and how people were saw by the color of their skin and not by the person who they are.

The transcript lacks description and emotion. Listening to the audio paints a picture in your mind of the atmosphere of Woolworth's Lunch-Counter. The audio describes the specials of the day (liver and onions) to the swivel chairs customers sat on. Even in the background of the audio there is noise as if customers are walking about through the store or chatting with one another.

When listening to the audio emotion is presented through the tone of Geneva's voice as she talks about various topics or gives an occasional laugh. When discussing the part of the story when the young men sat at the counter to be served you could recognize the seriousness of the situation from the tone of her voice while when she discussed sitting at the counter and eating you could almost feel the nervousness she felt on the day it happened.

After listening to the audio and reading the transcript I would prefer the audio for the best source of information. It’s more descriptive and informative while the transcript just brushes the main topics. From a personal point of view I prefer the audio also because I can just close my eyes, listen and let my imagination go to work.

What's important to the world?

With the masses of media in the world today it is hard to ignore what is considered important to the world.

The "Daily News" for Los Angalos, California frontpage, covers all ranges of topics from the Box-office to testing chidren's IQs to monkeys. The Daily News discusses enviornmental factors, area code additions for the rising population of Los Angelos, disputs between multimillionares and recent sport news. From the multiple headlines of the "Daily News" it is noticeable that they are trying to supply to a varity of viewers. The viewers of this newspaper care about what is going on in their area and topics that affect them and their daily lives.

Traveling across the United States to the east coast of Washington D.C. the Stars and Stripes newspaper focuses its importance on the War in Iraq. Its largest headline concerns the trial of Senior Marine officers while the other smaller headlines concern the new iphone and Nascar. It is obvious that the War is important to the Stars and Strips newpapers and probably has a large veiwing audience of patriotic citizens. Since Washington D.C. is a city of large importance and represence the United States it is not surprising that such a patriotic paper exists in this area.

The "Daily Herold's" (Chicago) headlines consist of saving historical landmarks, College and Elementry education, taxes and Honeybee populations. These topics being the important topics of this newpaper means the veiwing audience is made of a variety of citizens. The Daily Herold consist of topics that effect the lives of everyday citizens. This newspaper keeps viewers informed and up to date.

Over in Europe in London, UK the newspaper "The Guardian" discusses enviornmental topics, Big Lucianos battle with cancer, Sports and National and International news. The main article of "The Guardian" newspaper was about enviormentalist groups moving out of the way so new nuclear plants may be built. From this newspaper it seems that London is concerned about their enviorment and want to use their limited avaliability of land productively and efficently. Viewers of this paper are concerned with topics that affect the country but not topics that affect them directly.

"The Press" located in New Zealand covers topics such as Big Lucianos battle with cancer just like "The Guardian" in London, $200 million vaccine schemes, and a Detective demanding tracking devices back. It seems that this paper's main headlines cover topics that occur outside of New Zealand and around the world. New Zealand is a small country but they do not isolate themselves from the world around them. This paper carries a variety of topics to keep their veiwers interrested.
